Anti-Asian Discrimination
A Message from the Artistic Director
March 26th, 2021
Dear Randolph Family,
We are living in an unsettling and exhausting time. Incidents of anti-Asian racism have risen globally, including here in Canada, serving as a consistent reminder of our country's shameful history of anti-Asian rhetoric and conduct. Anti-Asian racism has increased throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, as evidenced recently by the hate crime in the US that took the lives of 8 people including 6 Asian women, and numerous incidents of violence and intimidation around the world.
Randolph College is a zero-tolerance space, and will not condone acts of racism, xenophobia, discrimination, violence and vitriol against or by the members of our community. Furthermore, we are committed to building and spreading awareness, developing and sharing resources, and inspiring and empowering our community to stand up against all forms of oppression and marginalization, without exception.
Trauma and triggers are unpredictable. The body needs to grieve, resolve, rest, and we recognize that the Pan-Asian and Asian-identifying communities across Randolph’s Students, Staff, Faculty and Alumni require the time and the space necessary for processing and healing to take place. To help, we have compiled the list of support resources below.
We see you, we stand with you, and we will continue to take the necessary steps and actions that reflect our commitment to creating a wholly inclusive and safe environment for this institution and its community.
With enduring support,
Janelle Cooper, Artistic Director
Laura East, Student Services
With sadness, we remember... Xiaojie Tan, 49; Daoyou Feng, 44; Soon Chung Park, 74; Hyun Jung Grant, 51; Suncha Kim, 69; and Yong Ae Yue, 63, Delaina Yaun, 33; and Paul Andre Michels, 54. May they rest peacefully.
