Triple Threat

Singer + Actor + Dancer = TRIPLE THREAT®

Randolph Kids Triple Threat® Division offers the necessary classes to develop and fine tune the skills of a well-rounded performer—performers who can act, sing, and dance. Different levels are offered for different age groups: Broadway Babies (Grades 1-2), Triple Threat (Grades 3-9), and Pre-College (Grades 9-12).

  • Broadway Babies  In this hour-long class the students will spend the first half of the year (September-December) participating in Vocal Ensemble, Jazz Dance Classes and Improvisation Activities guided by trained professionals. During the second half of the year (January-May/June) students will learn production numbers from well-known musical and pop songs, old and new, which we weave together into a mini-show featuring all 4 classes in the year end showcase.
  • Triple Threat®  Classes are designed for students who will make a year-long commitment to each and every class. Under the expert guidance of trained professionals, students are immersed in the musical theatre world.  Students study the history of age appropriate classical and contemporary shows. They apply their skills and techniques in production style numbers and a 60-minute musical, focusing on storytelling, character creation, ensemble and solo singing with harmony, small group and ensemble choreography. The first phase of the year-long program (September-December) has one hour class rotations in Jazz/Musical Theatre Dance, Vocal Ensemble, and Acting Scene Work and Improvisation, culminating in an open house presentation for parents and family in a theatre space.  *Students are assessed in the first two classes on dance technique and split between Elementary and Intermediate levels. The second phase of the program (January–May/June) integrates all training to date through the development of a JR musical.  Our 2017 musical was SHREK JR. performed as part of our June Triple Threat showcase in the Randolph Theatre. Stay tuned for our 2018 show announcement!
  • Pre-College  This high school aged program is a yearlong commitment with a more individual focus as well as ensemble work and participation in an original Canadian musical creation.  The first half of the year-long program (September–December) focuses on strengthening students skills and techniques in acting, singing and dancing.  In an hour long jazz/musical theatre dance class students concentrate on technique, performance, pick up skills and expression in movement.  In a two hour segment, students work on character creation and storytelling while strengthening their vocal and acting chops in individual vocal and acting pieces, as well as ensemble group numbers.  Special guest artists are brought in for mini-workshops – last year’s guest included Geoff Stevens (Kinky Boots, Mirvish), Matt Brown (Fiddler on the Roof, Stratford ) and Sarah Higgins (Wizard of Oz, Mirvish) all Randolph College Alumni.  This phase culminates in a “Coffee House Style” presentation for family and friends in our Annex Theatre. The second half of the program (January-June) integrates all training and skill in the development of a commissioned Canadian one act musical written and directed by Toronto musical theatre writers to be presented in the Annex Theatre, and a selection presented as part of the Year-End Showcase in the Randolph Theatre.  The Dora Award nominated team of Johnson & Johnston, writers of Blood Ties, Summerland The Musical and Elly’s Emotions, will be returning to write and direct the Pre-College show for the 2016-2017 year!
