Singing Lessons; Musicianship

Joseph Angelo began his musical education as a chorister at St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto, where he also took lessons in piano, organ, and theory. He earned both a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance at the University of Toronto, before continuing his studies at the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Joseph is the Music Director at St. Paul’s Basilica in Toronto, and has provided various forms of liturgical music ministry to many parishes across the GTA, including those of St. Lawrence Martyr, St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin, Holy Rosary, St. Basil, and St. Patrick (Markham and Toronto). Joseph also serves as the accompanist for the Irish Choral Society of Canada, under the direction of Sinead Sugrue. As a tenor, Joseph has performed with Calgary Opera, creating the role of Matak in the new opera by Arthur Bachmann and Clem Martini, What Brought Us Here. He has toured Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic Provinces with the Jeunesses Musicales de Canada's production of La Veuve Joyeuse, and has appeared with the Artists of the Royal Conservatory as Billy in Kurt Weill's Mahagonny Songspiel; as Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Opera York's production of Le Nozze di Figaro; with Toronto Operetta Theatre in numerous roles including Njegus (The Merry Widow) Estragon (Kàlmàn’s Gypsy Violins), Herr Schulius (Telgmann’s Leo, the Royal Cadet), Anibal (in the 2011 Canadian Premiere of F.M. Torroba’s Luisa Fernanda), and Prince Leopold Maria (Kàlmàn’s The Gypsy Princess). He has also performed in the Luminato Festival and workshopped the role of Seth in Colin Mack and Sharon Singer’s opera, Isis and Osiris.
