A founding member of the Soulpepper Theatre Company 25 years ago, Diego Matamoros has been performing in theatre and film for more than forty years. At Soulpepper alone he has acted in over 70 productions, including works by Shakespeare, Chekhov, Moliere, and Beckett, among many others. During that time, he also created original experimental works, such as The Aleph, and (the Zen inspired)  Cage; the latter touring to New York City in 2017. In 2022 he played the Earl of Gloucester in King Lear at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London, England, which starred Kathryn Hunter as Lear.   

He co-founded the Soulpepper Academy in 2006, a theatre training program for professional artists, and was Head of Acting there for almost a decade.  He has directed and taught at several universities, theatre schools and colleges, including the National Theatre School in Montreal and the University of Toronto. He is the recipient of several Dora Mavor Moore awards for his acting work as well as a Gemini award for his work on television.  He has performed professionally in Spanish and French, as well as in English.
